Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
